There is a Pre-school Story Hour every Wednesday morning, as well as Summer Story Hour during summer months. To have a library card you must be a resident of Raton for at least six months OR must produce a library card from any other NM library. If you wish to sign up for a library card before six months of residency, there is a $10.00 refundable deposit. Children who wish to have a library card must be able to write their first and last names and a parent or guardian must co-sign the form for any child under 17 years old. All on-premises services are free without a card.

Contains a unique partnership between county government, the United States Department of Agriculture, and New Mexico State University. As an off-campus arm of NMSU, there is informal, out-of-classroom education available to all citizens of the county.
•Educational programs are available in the areas of agriculture, home economics, community development, and 4-H and youth development. The Colfax County Cooperative Extension Service is committed to helping the people of the county improve their quality of life by utilizing research-based information and resources.
•The Extension Agriculture program provides research-based information in agronomy, livestock production, urban horticulture, integrated pest management, invasive plants/noxious weeds management, soil and water conservation, and pesticide applicator training.
•4-H is an out-of-the-classroom educational youth organization, which is designed to assist youth in acquiring knowledge, life skills, and productive attitudes through participation in projects, activities, and competitions. 4-H clubs are located throughout the county.
Services are available to the public by visiting the Extension Office, by telephone, by attending educational programs, events and activities that are publicized via area newspapers, radio stations, flyers, community billboards, newsletters, and direct mailing.
